Virtual support for warehouse workers

What

Smart Glasses are wearable Augmented Reality (AR) devices that are worn like (regular) glasses. This makes it possible to project information (such as instructions) within the user’s purview. We are currently conducting a pilot with the Smart Glasses from Epson at Metafors, the metal company of Amfors. This ‘Virtual Buddy’ assists warehouse workers with their activities.

Why

Processing orders and amendments within the warehouse can be challenging. The Smart Glasses help employees in performing their work/ job more accurately and quickly, without having the need for physical guidance.

How

During the pilot, the Smart Glasses guides the employees through the working process from start to finish. The accessory application provides the employees with feedback and links the data from the orders to the ERP system.

Next step

In January 2020 we will start a pilot which is primarily aimed at process-oriented support for warehouse employees. A potential next step is to expand the pilot to other processes and work-forms, or by continuing to develop the application through gamification and video streaming.
